FESTIVALS IN THIS PANDEMIC

Festivals – the source of enjoyment, zeal, enthusiasm, and fun. Particularly in India the major source of celebration are festivals, be it Holi or Eid or Baisakhi we Indians never miss the chance to grab out fun. However this year things are different owing to unprecedented occurrences that have not only affected our day to day life, from economy to education, but also the festivals. We all have been locked down for nearly five months and in this span of 5 months many festivals came and many are yet to come.

THE PINK CITY: JAIPUR

The best example of ancient as well as modern culture; the historical city of Jaipur is the capital of the royal state of Rajasthan. The city is situated on the eastern border of the Thar Desert; but surrounded by the elevated Aravallis on three sides; it is protected from the harsh desert.

IN SEARCH OF PERFECTION

In search of perfection, it seems that we have lost those little imperfect happy satisfying vibes. Those imperfect but still perfectly peaceful ones.

No matter how hard you try to make a perfect, untouchable life for yourself. Trouble still finds you. Tragedy finds you, and you keep on trying to make your situation better. We believe that we can make something perfect out of ourselves, that will last, even though, at that time we know we can’t!

FEMALE FRIENDSHIPS

Unlike relationships such as marriage, which have clear timelines and validity, friendships have no ceremonial beginning or end, no biological definition. They are not sanctioned by any church, nor recognized officially by any state. Maybe that is why they require much more diligence and effort. Among many such friendly relations, female friendships have originated to be a powerful force in the world. Women have for years been diminished by the society and burdened by the family. This is perhaps what led to women finding their identity and power among friends.

AN EXISTENTIAL READING OF FRANKENSTEIN

“Every existent is born without reason, prolongs itself out of weakness and dies by chance.” – Jean-Paul Sartre.

Contrary to popular interpretation which has Frankenstein as merely a tale of a horrifying monster who provokes fear and causes harm, Mary Shelley, the author of the 1818 novel, had originally maintained the creature as a complex and multi-dimensional character.

TO THE ONES WHO WERE SUPPOSED TO START COLLEGE THIS SUMMER

I know high school has been too exhausting and the only thing that helped you survive it was the belief that college would be different. The hope that you could have a fresh start and a chance to do better. The belief that the hours you spent going through college websites, curriculum, cut-off lists and the countless sleepless nights, would someday be worth it. That you would leave all your worries behind and charm your way into a new world that was waiting to embrace you with open arms.

WOMEN GET PERIODS. WOMEN NEED PERIOD LEAVES. PERIOD.

Food delivering company, Zomato, will now be giving its female and transgender employees up to 10 days of ‘period leave’ a year. The move was lauded by many and is being seen as a step towards greater de-stigmatisation and acceptance.

RETHINKING CLEOPATRA & BOLEYN

Crippled by the burden of the womb, is a woman truly more limited than a man? Does the colour of ambition bloom on her and if that ambition does sprout, will it bud-like flowers slipping through cracks on washed-out walls or will she pile up as another man woman in the attic?

RAIN, OH RAIN!

Oh What a Day!
You know what? It was raining today.
Rain, Rain, I thought of seeing you,
Were you the reason behind her precious smiles?
Or were you the aid that helped her hide the tears that she had been carrying for miles?

THAT RAIN AND THAT RAINBOW

I saw that thing in the azure sky,
It was a sunny day and glee was at its high.
I saw there a group of teens talking,
And I started eavesdropping.

FORGIVENESS….

It’s often said and abided to:
“Forgiveness is pride and has never died,
You understand this only when you have tried”.

WHAT KEEPS YOU GOING?

I woke up,
probably after a bad dream,
The sun looked beautiful in its act of rising!
Don’t we all do as well?
I got lost, completely lost,

LOCKED UP

Ever caught yourself locked up in your bathroom,
Ever felt like you never want to come out,
Ever felt the need to shut your mouth, just shut it once and for all,
Ever felt like you cannot do anything but escape.

IT’S LOVE

It’s the oldest feeling we all know,
It’s raw and it’s fresh,
It’s feels new every time it starts to grow,
It’s fragile yet a beautiful mesh!

UNDERSTANDING PRIVILEGE

“I am not privileged enough”!
I heard the conversation my neighbors made

“I can’t go out and buy the latest smart phone,
I mostly have to party alone
