FEMINISM AS AN IDEOLOGY

Google defines feminism as a “ social movement and ideology that fights for the political, economic and social rights for women.” Charles Fourier, a utopian socialist and French philosopher is credited with having coined the term ‘feminism’ which was added to the oxford dictionary in the year 1852. The true essence of feminism and feminist movements has had different meanings in the past decades. If I had to ask people if they are a feminist, well, few would say yes, while few would refuse any kind of interest or involvement in such discussions.  Some might even refrain themselves from using the word. What has changed over the years that has made these people afraid to label themselves as feminists?
